Welcome to Bluebells!

As a class we promote the Gospel Values and ask the children to treat others how they would like to be treated. The children are asked to reflect on and take responsibility for their actions.

In Year One/Two the children follow the National Curriculum and we use the "Letters and Sounds" program for Phonics. We follow a creative curriculum which makes links between the different subject areas. The areas of learning include the core subjects English, Maths, RE and Science. As well as the core subjects we also have activities in Art, Design and Technology, Geography, History, Computing, Music and Physical Education. These are linked to the topics being covered for each half term with each subject being delivered for an equal amount of time throughout the year.

Children in Year One/Two will also receive daily phonics lessons as large emphasis is put on developing basic skills of Reading and the children are required to read at home regularly and promote the use of sounding out the more difficult words.

Lessons are briefly introduced to the class usually as a whole and then the children are divided into groups to work on different activities. Some children will be working independently and others will be supported by the adults working in the room. They are encouraged to work collaboratively at all times, using appropriate vocabulary and respecting the rights of others in the class.

The children participate in daily guided reading sessions where they work as a small group on a specific aspect of reading. This may range from using inference and deduction to answer questions about the text, to looking at the author’s use of language.

If you have any other websites which you feel would help other parents and children please send them to me and we can add them to the lists.

PE will be every Friday morning. The children can either bring a PE kit in each week, and take it home at the end of the day, or bring it in at the start of term and take it home to be washed during holidays.

School Meals

The children in year One/Two will have access to a breakfast club and during play time. The children have access to free fruit at play time and free water throughout the day. From September 2015, one free item from breakfast club (not including drinks) will be available to all KS1 children.
